I can't believe I've been blogging for damn nearly ONE YEAR! It's actually gratifying, to say the least. For ONE year, I've been trying to shed light on various topics that people from Urban communities might find appealing, and dope. I prided myself on realness, and a splash of zest, or je ne sais quoi, that you could find ANYWHERE else on the webosphere.
BUT THERE'S MORE TO DO, & ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT!
SO IF YOU CAN'T GET DOWN WITH THAT, LET ME GIVE YOU 5 MORE REASONS YOU SHOULDN'T READ URBAN ROYALS NYC.
If there's one thing URNYC don't have time for is making a name for ourselves bashing, and shitting on other celebrities. Celebrities are people too. They have human feelings just like us. They just do a damn good job sometimes hiding it. What we ARE here for is critiquing, and comparing their situations to situations us.. common folks share. We can careless about how the Kardashians are living on a day to day, but we are interested in how their discussion around transgendered life affects non-celebrity trans.
4. We are a small team of media/pop culture critics.
And by small team, we mean a team of one.
I, Kamilah Badiane, have been writing and blogging under Urban Royals since January 2015. Has it been easy? No. Has it been a learning experience? HELL YEAH! I've learned how to network, market myself, and a brand, how to edit the hell out of one post, be comfortable with using my authentic voice, just to convey ideas around various topics for my audience. And I'm going to humbly gloat, but the 600 readers per week have been enjoying it as well.
3. We don't have a huge following.
Urban Royals isn't up there with any of the popular blogs. Shit, we probably not even in the top 100, but what sets us apart from the countless of other blogs is that it's driven and promoted by a highly ambitious writer. I'm talking the next Oprah. BABY OPRAH here! We haven't seen a thousand readers yet, nor have we been the topic of conversation, but dang nammit we are trying!
2. All we talk about is minority folks, urban culture, and tackle issues that impacts (negatively, and positively) those communities.
We aren't your everyday, for everyone media outlet. On the contrary actually. We are a blog that is very biased, in that we talk about the underrepresented, the folks that usually don't have a voice, and when it comes to major news, we're the ones that only gets shine when it comes to gun violence, drive-bys and gang related shit. However, this blog addresses that, the larger systemic issue in relations to that, and a ton of positive news that you might not have access to in major outlets.
1. We curse, keeping everything dope, and authentic.
Okay, so maybe the cursing can be a little excessive a times. But I mean honestly, if that offends you, then we make up for it by talking about the real things that no one else is talking about. We've took a ton of blue pills, and we're unapologetic about it. We are trying to wake you up to something bigger than us, bigger than the news networks, and bigger than, big? If you are comfortable with how things are, then by all means, keep clicking, but Urban Royals is a space where we question your comfort, and dig deeper.
If you made it to the end of this post, then you just might want to keep reading our dope, and authentic blog. If not, then you can't say I didn't warn you in the title.
Keep reading Urban Royals NYC, or be gone!
