But added to that list more than recently is Fashion Novice. My older sister, and slightly more fashion forward than myself, describes my style as "conservative". Meaning I use less prints, more cover ups, and less fashion risks, than the average.
Well thats fine with me considering I'm just starting out in this expressive world of clothes. But enough with the me talk, lets talk about you! You know how they tell you to wear just "button ups, and slacks" to your job interviews? Or conventions? Or conferences? HELLLOOOO its the 21st century, 2015, THOSE DAYS ARE OVER!
What if I told you, you can wear awesome, bright, lively colors, in a professional setting and still be the most professional, edgy, fashion conscious person there?
Lets take a look into my closet!
What You Need To Know About Business Fashion Before You Fleek Your Outfits Out..
Professional Attire (Formal)
Business Casual (Informal)
Professional Attire for women includes long sleeves, neutral colors, if you're wearing skirts, no shorter than knee length.
I broke some professional attire rules.. I'm not going to lie. But it panned out pretty well!
I bent the rules with the short sleeved blazer, and the pencil skirt (any body from the oldie times will tell you pencil skirts are a no go for professional settings.. I will tell you that its fine.) Pencil skirts are said to be a little too "sexy" for the work environment, but if you ask me any man in a fitted suit is too "sexy" to be in my environment so I guess we can call it even.
Nonetheless, if you are looking to be more conservative heres the same out fit with a pair of Black slacks and booties.
Your limits are basically nothing that's deemed revealing (plunging necklines, V cuts, pum pum shorts, etc.) and also, contrary to what you're older sister wears on Casual Fridays; NO LEGGINGS!
Leggings are saved for those lazy days, and nothing in the business world is lazy!
One key thing to remember when accessorizing for business casual, don't leave your arms bare! As a matter of fact, I have a partnership brewing with an jewelry empress over at Madison Gem and most of her accessories, if not all compliments outfits of neutral, or earth tone shades.
Also don't be afraid to ditch the pants idea all together and trade it in for a dress. In the photo array above, I'm wearing a floral print green hi-low dress and paired it with a blazer and neat low bun to convey my put together business chic-fleekness.
Semi-formal is a combination of professional and casual. You're limited to neutral colors, and the same length code applies, however these rules are more flexible.
I went on a tour of Fox 5 in Atlanta the other day and I felt Godly (as Dej Loaf would tell it) so I wore all-white.
DON'T YOU DARE WALK INTO ANY BUSINESS EVENT WITHOUT A TANK UNDER A SEE THROUGH SHIRT
You are not Rihanna, and even Rih Rih wouldn't do such a cornball move like that.
Keep it classy, never trashy, when it comes to see through outfits.
Here's another option for semi-formal:
